Dental Risk Self-Assessment: Exclusively for Members

The Doctors Company’s online Dental Risk Self-Assessment exclusively for members can identify hidden liability risks in your dental practice. Regardless of the size of your practice or whether you are a general practitioner or a dental specialist, this easy-to-navigate self-assessment will guide you through common pitfalls in dental practices and provide you with risk management resources and strategies to prevent adverse outcomes and patient harm.

Program Description

The Dental Risk Self-Assessment is based on The Doctors Company’s closed claim data and daily interactions with our dental practitioners. The assessment addresses the processes and issues that can lead to claims.

During the self-assessment, you will answer a series of questions that can illuminate improvement opportunities and provide suggestions for actions to reduce or even eliminate risks.

  • Universal Protocol
  • Retained Surgical Object
  • Swallowed/Aspirated Object
  • Patient Relations and Communication
  • Patient Satisfaction
  • Requests for Refunds
  • Workplace Violence
  • Documentation
  • Pediatric-Specific Issues

Who should take the assessment?

Anyone in your practice who is intimately involved with the day-to-day processes, including dental practitioners, office managers, dental hygienists, or dental assistants, may complete the self-assessment. Ideally, your answers would be based on a team discussion as necessary.

How long does the self-assessment take?

The assessment can be completed in as little as 10–15 minutes; however, we encourage a team-based effort and thoughtful response. This educational activity has the potential to make a significant difference in your patient safety and risk management efforts. The choice is yours as to how you apply the recommendations.

When can I expect to receive my report?

Immediately after submitting the assessment, you will receive a link to download your report to the member email address entered on the first page of the assessment. The report comes with useful information and links to additional resources on all topics in the assessment (even in the areas where you scored well), making it a valuable resource for years to come.
